Beauty In Another Dimension

$

Beauty is truly presented in all forms, and I found this next video really inspiring. This is beauty, just in another dimension. The rising sun, the seamless precision, the music, the glistening gold color of the trucks and the sheer softness and ease of the video compared to the truly difficult task at hand. The strength and concentration needed for this is beyond!

The movie was made in just one take, and everything seen is real. It was shot on an airport strip outside Madrid, Spain at around 8 in the morning. The lighting had to be just perfect so the window of time to shoot was tight. It was shot by Swedish director, Andreas Nilsson to demonstrate Volvo Trucks' new dynamic steering system - heja Sverige! :)

I think they did such a great job and it's a joy to watch. Not bad for 53 year old Van Damme! :) What do you guys think of this video? Let me know in the comments! XOXO

Clear Skin: Tips & Advice

$

Hi beautiful! I'm back with a new video featuring a few skin care tips I swear by to help keep my skin clear. In my case, the health of my skin comes down to two factors: what I eat and how I treat my skin (makeup usage, face treatments, cleanliness etc).

My skin is always a work in progress, and I literally have to "baby" my skin for it to stay in a good condition. When I'm careful with what I eat and look after my skin by properly caring for it, it's clear and glowing. But when I'm slacking, I can tell right away! These are the things I do to help keep my skin clear.

I've seen a huge improvement in the general "flare-ups" of my skin since going dairy-free, especially around my cheeks. Dairy contains hormones for baby cows (hence cows milk) which can disrupt our hormone levels, causing irregular activity and over production of oil. You can read more about this, as well as how wheat and other animal products could be affecting your skin in the following post: "Clear Acne Free Skin" http://www.anniejaffrey.com/2012/11/how-to-clear-acne-free-skin.html

Skin Care Tips Recap:
- Minimize and/or avoid: dairy and animal products, wheat, sugar
- Include lots of: water, vegetables, fruit, nuts, quinoa, green tea, fresh juices
- Avoid wearing makeup daily (to let your skin breath) - or if you can't not wear makeup daily, then try taking it off as soon as you get home
- Make sure brushes are cleansed and sanitized before use
- Exercise regularly to get oxygen to your skin and minimize stress levels
- Pamper your skin (do natural DIY facials, steam your face, exfoliate...)

Other Skin Care Tips:
- Change your pillow case every 2-3 days
- Hair conditioner has silicones in it, so avoid letting it run down your face when showering as it can clog up your pores. Tip: Cleanse face after you condition your hair (and your pores will have opened up nicely by this stage)
- Use natural face masks, with ingredients like raw honey or clay (Aztec Healing Clay for instance is great!)
- Keep hair out of your face - especially when working out (it can irritate your skin causing breakouts)

The two supplements I sometimes take which help my skin are:
- Nordic Naturals Omega 369 Vit D Fish Oil Capsules (lemon taste)
- Nature's Way Alive Women's Energy

But the most important is eating real food which naturally contain these vitamins and nutrients: lots of greens, vegetables, fruits, fish, nuts, beans etc.. It's amazing how good healthy food can solve so many of our body issues, and make us feel great. It's so powerful.

Again as mentioned in the video, everybody is different: our genetics, the way our bodies process food etc. You might know someone who can do whatever they want to their skin, and it's always clear - yet you might have more difficulties with yours. It's about experimenting, observing and understanding what triggers the breakouts. There's no need in being sad about it, just learn and carry on! :)

I hope that you found this post helpful! Let me know if you stick to similar 'guidelines' to help keep your skin clear. Do you have any favorite face masks, or treatments for your skin? Let me know in the comments! XOXO

Grocery Haul!

Hi beautiful! I have a health related video for you today which will hopefully inspire a good start to the week. These are a few of the groceries I like to buy (more listed further below in the post). As mentioned in the video, my goal is to stock up on as many clean healthy foods as possible (fruits, veggies, beans, greens, healthy snacks) - so that's what I'll eat, as I eat at home the majority of the time :) And I'll eat other foods when I'm out with friends or family. A healthy lifestyle is definitely about moderation - a little 'treat' once in a while won't harm you :) As long as the majority (85%-90%) of my diet is clean, my body is happy.

Dairy & Calcium
I got a few comments in my last video about dairy and the importance of calcium. And even though dairy is a good source of calcium, there are a ton of other foods that have just as much, and sometimes even a higher content of calcium - without the added hormones and processing of dairy. For instance, almond milk has more calcium per cup, than regular cows milk. "According the the USDA, one cup of whole almonds contains approximately 378mg of calcium. Compared that to the 276mg of calcium in the same measure of whole milk, and we see a startling difference." Almond milk is also very high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which help strengthen your body. I suggest making almond milk at home to avoid other ingredients found in store-bought ones. It's super easy and doesn't take too long!

Other natural sources of calcium are: collard greens, rhubarb, spinach, sesame seeds and kale.

Of course this is what I do, and what works for me. I know for a fact that dairy affects my skin, which means my body doesn't "agree" with it - so I avoid eating it and it helps my skin. I am not a doctor, just sharing my experiences, and maybe they will be helpful to someone else :)

A few of the groceries mentioned in the video!

Some other groceries I usually buy (but had in my kitchen already):
- wild rice
- mushrooms
- onion (staple of course when cooking)
- sweet potatoes
- oranges
- pears
- bananas
- mixed frozen berries (for smoothies)
- canned crushed tomatos
- coconut water
- dates
- walnuts
- other flavors of rice cakes (sweet chili, plain - but always with natural ingredients)
- fruit & nut muesli (with oats)
- a variety of natural spices & herbs for cooking

Fashion & Candle Haul!

Hi everyone! I just uploaded another haul video, this time showing a few recent purchases made on the "high street" as they call it here :) I got most of these items over the past 1-2 weeks so if you like any of them, they should still be in store! I think my favorite purchase has to be the Zara jacket, and the embellished sweaters - as well as all the little candles which make my whole apartment smell delicious :)

 photo NovHaul1.jpg

Some newly purchased candles :) Love!

Love these pretty hand washes! They smell lovely and make my bathroom look more glam :)

Below are a few close ups of the makeup I have on in the video. I've been going for a very simple eye lately, without lots of shading on the lower lash line - which I normally like to do, but I like to mix things up, even if it's just slightly :) I used the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner along with my HG mascara by Clinique called the Lash Doubling. I left my eyelids bare, but added a hint of sparkle in the inner corners just to give some light to the eyes. I used my Make Up For Ever HD Foundation with MAC's Studio Fix Powder to set it. My blush is MAC's Melba Blush- a nice peachy toned color which looks great all year round. I also used the highlight color from Sleek's Contour Kit on my upper cheeks to give a nice glow to the face. On my lips I'm wearing L'Oreal Fairest Nude Lipstick with NARS Piree Gloss on top :) My top is from River Island (shown in the video) and my necklace is from H&M - which I think is definitely my most worn necklace!

I curled my hair using a flat iron (watch my how-to video here), and pinned back one side using two bobby pins - I love this look. I kept my makeup pretty simple and used Chanel's "Génie" gloss which has a beautiful peachy / coral undertone. My floral top is from Primark (show in this haul here) and my earrings are from Forever 21 :) Hope you enjoyed the video! XOXO

Hi beautiful! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend! I've been in New Jersey for the past few days spending some quality time with my dad, step mom and two of my little sisters - a nice little weekend with the fam! Today I filmed a haul showing you a few things I got whilst I was there, mostly beauty & skin care products from Sephora and the drugstore. I love beauty shopping in the states as the prices are great and they just have so many things! Just after I filmed this next video, on possibly staring a new "vlog" channel, and I want your opinion! I think it could be fun, but still thinking about video ideas, if it will be in a "follow-me-around" type video, or short videos featuring a quick beauty tip etc.. I'm also thinking if I decide to do these videos, to keep them on my original channel, or to open a new one. Anyway let me know your thoughts :) I hope everyone is having a great week so far! XOXO

Hi my lovelies! Thanks so much for your feedback on my last video :) I will definitely try to vlog next week when I'm in Dubai :) I just uploaded my new video where I show you a few products I bought when I was in the States last weekend. Most of these things aren't available in the UK (or are a bit pricier here) so I had to stock up whilst I was there visiting my dad. I hope you guys enjoy the video! Aside from finishing up the video, I've been packing my suitcase, making sure I have everything. I am so excited for the sunshine and the water! I can't wait :) We are leaving for the airport in just a few hours so I'm going to get back to packing. Hope everyone is having a great day!

I wanted to show you guys a close up of my bun. I don't think it's ever looked this "sleek" without using a ton of hairspray. I just used a quarter size of the hair gel shown in the video and it made it look really sleek and shiny - I love it! :) This hairstyle is perfect for bad hair days or for 2nd or 3rd day hair (just before washing it). I also love to do this if I have an event to go to but don't have enough time to do my hair. It always looks polished. I have a video where I show how to do this at the end - you can watch it here. Are you guys fans of this look? Have you tried out this mesh bun method? Let me know in the comments!

Soft Bouncy Hair Tutorial & GIVEAWAY!

Hi everyone! I'm back with a hair tutorial on this requested look, which I've been wearing in most of my recent videos. This was filmed before I left on vacation - ps. having a fabulous time :) Pictures and a little video to come soon! I used a 32mm curling wand to achieve these bouncy waves from the Bellami 6 in 1 hair curling kit which is any beauty lover's dream. It comes with all different sized barrels to create lots of different styles. The 32mm wand is the biggest barrel, and gives the loosest "softest" curls. This is one of my all time favorite hairstyles, and once you get the technique down, it shouldn't take more than 15 to 20 minutes!

There's also a huge giveaway at the end of the video. I collaborated with a few other awesome YouTuber's to put together an amazing trip for two to Las Vegas (flight & hotel included). All the details on how to enter that will be below the video in the description box. I hope you enjoy and find this video helpful! Thanks for watching & good luck to everyone entering the giveaway! XOXO

A few pictures of the finished look!
As mentioned in the video, I used a 32mm curling wand to create these glamorous waves.
I love doing the little comb & hairspray trick to keep those little flyaways at bay,
and to give a little life & volume to the bangs.

Hi beautiful! I hope everyone is doing well. I've been having such a good time here in Dubai. I'm excited to upload my little vlog for you guys, I have a few more clips to insert and then I will post it :) I love this place! The weather has been so nice, gorgeous malls and hotels, plus the people here are lovely. Yesterday we visited a real "souk", about 20 mins from the main city, which is a market place where you can find all sorts of spices as well as traditional clothing and jewelry - I will post those pictures up next. It was such a great experience. Below are a few very "au natural" photos taken on the beach yesterday - credits to my love. It's been so nice not wearing a lot of makeup and really letting my skin breath. The salt water and sun really help! (For those wondering, my top is from Forever 21, sunglasses from NastyGal.com and my sandals are from Primark). XOXO

Souk Marketplace, Dubai

This was one of the best places I saw in Dubai. Even though it's far from being "glamorous", I really enjoyed the authenticity of this place, and getting to see a part of Dubai's real culture. We drove about 20-30 mins from the main city to a place called Deira to visit the Gold Souk. "Souk" in Arabic means an open-air marketplace, which this definitely was. We parked the car, and then took a little gondola-like boat across a little creek which only cost 1 Dirham, equivalent to less than $0.30!

Vendors were selling everything from clothing to jewelry to shoes as well as raw honey, spices and herbs for cooking. You can also find really beautiful souvenirs there - which aren't marked up as they are in tourist shops. I bought a little black pashmina which is so soft and the quality is really nice. Some of the streets were really small and narrow, and there were plenty of small passage ways to take. It was a really great experience. In my vlog, which is currently being uploaded, you will also see a few clips from when we were there. Have you ever been to Dubai? If so, have you visited this souk in Deira? Let me know in the comments! Hope you enjoy these photos! XOXO

Hi everyone! So as promised, here's a little vlog from when I was in Dubai last week. The style isn't a typical 'vlog', but I thought it would be a nice way to show you a recap of some of the places we visited. Let me know what you think of this style. I had such a great time, everything was absolutely beautiful! Thank you to everyone who live in and around Dubai asking to do a meet up. The week went by so fast! I will be back soon though and would love to organize something then. You guys really live in an amazing city! :) Hope you enjoy the video XOXO

My Hotel Room

Hey guys! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I got a few comments asking about which hotel I stayed at whilst I was in Dubai last week. I stayed at the Mövenpick in JBR, and loved it. The customer service was really great, and I really enjoyed our room. It's not directly situated on the beach, but it was only a 1 minute walk away (literally across a little street), and the prices were super good (booked through Expedia). The breakfast buffet in the morning was amazing, although it wasn't included in our stay. We ate there a couple of times, but there are tons of restaurants (and shops) just outside the hotel where we ate lots. Below are a few pictures of my room at the hotel. We had a really nice view over the sea, which was so beautiful to wake up to every morning. Hopefully I will have a view similar to this in my future home. I filmed a little vlog whilst I was in Dubai, you can watch it here in case you missed it! Hope you enjoy the pictures XOXO

I can't believe it's almost Christmas! Tomorrow I'm going home to visit my family in Geneva, and I can't wait to see everyone :) We all live in different parts of the world, but we all make sure to be home with my mom during the holidays - which is the best part of Christmas for me. Anyway below I have a few new pictures I recently received from a shoot I did with the Platform a few months ago when I was in New York for Fashion Week. It was so fun and I love how they came out! The Platform is a channel on YouTube, fully dedicated to all things fashion and beauty. Hope you enjoy the pics! And of course I hope you are having a nice time with your families  XOXO

Retro Chic Faux Bob

MERRY CHRISTMAS my loves! I hope everyone had a fabulous day filled yesterday with love and happiness

I’m back with the third video from my TRESemmé partnership featuring “Throw-Back-Thursday” inspired looks (click here to watch Boho Beach Waves tutorial, and here for Romantic Grecian Updo). Today I’ll be showing you how to create a super chic retro inspired bob – without actually cutting your hair of course!

This is a really “fun” hairstyle to do - it totally changes up your look within minutes, without making any permanent decisions to actually cut your hair. I think this would look great now for any holiday parties - you might even end up shocking a few friends and family members :) You can also create this style with straight hair, but when it’s curled it looks more natural and real. The key to this is… bobby pins! So make sure you have plenty to work with. Hope you guys enjoy the video and let me know what you think of the look in the comments! XOXO

Step-by-Step Summary

1. Prepare by applying Thermal Creations Curl Activator Spray onto your hair to help shield and protect from heat styling.

2. Begin by sectioning off your hair. Taking approximately a 1 to 2-inch section of hair, start wrapping it around the wand – and hold for a few seconds. Vary the direction of the curls (inwards / outwards) to give a natural curly look. Once curled, drop the curl in your hand and allow it to cool before releasing completely. Repeat to rest of hair.

3. Gently brush through a few of the curls, and shake up the roots to give more volume.

4. Apply Fresh Start Dry Shampoo into the hair, which instantly freshens up the hair by eliminating odor and oil – as well as creating grip and texture, perfect for creating this style.

5. Section off the lower half of your hair and secure with a hair tie. Wrap the pony inwards, and tuck it under the base of your hair. Secure with bobby pins.

6. Release top half of hair. Re-curl any pieces of hair if necessary. Taking approximately a 2-3 inch section, start wrapping it inwards and tuck into lower bun created previously – making sure to not pull to tight, allowing the curl to keep its shape. Secure with bobby pins. Repeat to rest of hair.

7. Gently pull out a few sections of hair from the bob, allowing them to flow over naturally. Again, re-curl a few sections if needed.

8. Apply TRES Two Ultra Fine Mist Hairspray to keep your faux bob and curls intact. This spray goes on dry due to its water-free formula so it doesn’t feel sticky or stiff. Plus it will keep the hair resistant to frizz and humidity.

Afternoon Walk

I just got back from the most beautiful walk by the country side, and had to share a few photos I took with my iPhone. It was around 3pm in the afternoon, so the light was just beautiful. The air is so clean and fresh here in Geneva - I try to "fill" up on it as much as I can when I'm here :) Taking in fresh air is so important for our bodies, it energizes us, boosts our mood and lowers stress! If ever I'm feeling stressed about something, a walk really clears my mind - like an instant little pick me up. I alternated between walking and jogging to keep myself warm, and also did a few walking lunges and squats. Hope you enjoy these pictures! XOXO

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a nice evening last night, and I wish everyone an amazing year filled with happiness and success. You guys have really made 2013 all the bit sweeter for me, so thank you for your love! ♥ Kareem and I drove to Milan yesterday - which is about a 3 hour drive from Geneva. We booked everything really last minute but were able to find a cute hotel not so far from the Piazza del Duomo . It is so pretty here, but so cold! I brought my new Zara coat though which has been keeping me warm :) Milan is so beautiful, there is so much history here. The details on the Milan Cathedral are stunning! To think it was made so many years ago and still looks so beautiful. I hope you guys enjoy these pictures taken earlier today at the Piazza! XOXO

Winter Wonderland

Hi my lovelies  I hope everyone has been having a good start to the year! This past weekend I went skiing in Megève, France for a few days. Megève is located about an hour and a half outside of Geneva (where I'm currently staying with my mom for the holidays), and it's a really nice ski village with great slopes. I've been skiing since I was about 12, and as long as the weather is nice, I will happily ski :) The nature was so scenic, and I had to share some photos with you guys! It actually looked like a winter wonderland. It had snowed pretty heavily one night, and the next day the skies cleared and left this beautiful snowy overlay on all the trees - it looked magical. Do you guys like to ski? If so, where is your favorite location? Let me know in the comments! :)

Oh and a few of you guys have asked about the camera I've been using recently. I've been using the Sony RX1 I received for my birthday last year. You can see a picture of it here

Nail Products

Hi beautiful! Yesterday I headed in to the city to get a Shellac manicure, however everything was fully booked (and super pricey!) so I decided to do a simple manicure at home. I lightly filed my nails and used these products below. The OPI "Nail Envy" has been one of my must-have nail products for about two years now. It makes them so strong and allows them to grow nicely. The nail polish I used is called "Nude Pink" by Revlon, and I love colors like this! It is especially good because you can keep it for quite a while without noticing the chips. Then I apply the OPI "Rapi Dry" top coat to help it dry quicker and to give it a nice glossy finish. I used to love the Seche Vite top coat, but found it got thick and clumpy very quickly - so I stopped using that one. The OPI one works really well!

I always apply Moroccan oil (olive / coconut oil is good too) to my cuticles, especially now when it's cold outside, to keep them moisturized - and it helps the manicure look good too :)

It's good to give them a break from Shellac from time to time :)
